Bail review set in May for Calgary man charged in Ryan Wedding case

Published:

33-year-old Calgarian Allistair Chapman was one of 10 people arrested by federal RCMP over his alleged connection to former Olympic snowboarder and alleged drug kingpin Ryan Wedding.

A review of a judge’s decision to deny bail for a Calgary man arrested on extradition warrants connected to accused drug kingpin Ryan Wedding has been set for May 8.

A judge denied bail in February for Allistair Chapman, saying U.S. prosecutors have a strong case against him.

Chapman and nine others were arrested last year in an FBI investigation into a billion-dollar international drug trafficking organization allegedly run by Wedding, a former Canadian Olympic snowboarder.

U.S. prosecutors allege Chapman helped arrange the killing of an FBI informant in Colombia.

Chapman was originally charged with conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to retaliate against a witness, conspiracy to distribute cocaine and other offences.

His lawyers requested the bail review, saying the extradition request has been amended to only conspiracy to commit murder.
