Halifax Regional Police say they continue to investigate the unsolved stabbing death of a 27-year-old woman in the city four decades ago.

Police responded to a report of a possible murder at 2468 Robie St. just before 2 a.m. on March 28, 1986.

Ann Marie Masson was found dead inside the home. She was “repeatedly” stabbed to death.

Police say Masson left her home on Lemon Walk in the Spryfield area of Halifax that day to go to her friends’ house on Robie Street at 3 p.m.

A man had been charged with her murder, but the charge was dismissed at the preliminary hearing stage.

Investigators believe there are people who have information about Masson’s death.

“Investigators hope that the passage of time will encourage someone to come forward with what they know; it is never too late and what might seem like an insignificant detail may help progress the investigation,” Halifax Regional Police said in a news release Friday.

The case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes program.

The program offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction for certain major unsolved crimes.

Police are asking anyone with information about Masson’s homicide to call them at 902-490-5020 or the rewards program at 1-888-710-9090.
