One person was taken to hospital after a small aircraft crashed at a Metro Vancouver airport on Monday, according to first responders.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the incident at the Pitt Medows Regional Airport just after 11:15 a.m.
“Crews conducted a patient assessment, established a protective line, and evaluated the aircraft for any safety and environmental concerns,” Pitt Meadows Fire Rescue wrote in a social media post.
“All crews worked efficiently and professionally to ensure a safe, co-ordinated response.”
B.C. Emergency Health Services says it sent one ambulance with primary care paramedics, one ambulance with advance care paramedics and a supervisor to the scene.
They treated one patient, who was taken to hospital in “serious, but stable condition.”
The federal Transportation Safety Board has deployed a team of investigators to the site.
It says the accident involved a Cessna 172, a small four-seat airplane.
“The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence,” the board wrote in a brief statement.
The Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is one of the busiest in the province, with high aircraft activity from flight schools and private flights.
