Transport Canada has issued a recall for more than 8,000 Volkswagen vehicles in Canada due to a “safety risk.”
The recall was triggered due to a software problem that can cause the instrument cluster not to display when the vehicle is started, leading to an increased risk of crashes.
“As a result, you may not be able to see certain information about the vehicle, including the speedometer, gear selection indicators, warning lights and malfunction tell-tales,” the recall alert first posted on March 25 and later updated on April 2, said.
Vehicles affected by the recall include the following models:
- Volkswagen Jetta, model year 2025
- Volkswagen Taos, model year 2025
Impacted customers will be notified by the carmaker by mail to bring their vehicle to a dealership to update the software, the notice said.
“The dealer will replace the instrument cluster, as necessary.”
Earlier in March, more than 13,000 vehicles from the same automaker were recalled for a “risk of fire.”
The recall said the transmission ground wire on certain vehicles may not have been connected during production, causing the wiring or other parts near it to overheat, causing a risk of fire.
