With spring fully in effect, some parts of Canada are expected to experience some unruly weather toward the end of the Easter weekend, while others will be enjoying seasonal temperatures. Here’s what the forecast looks like, according to Environment Canada.
Ontario
The nation’s capital is expected to have a chance of flurries and showers throughout the week, with highs of 14 C on Thursday and overnight lows of -9 C on Tuesday. The Greater Toronto Area will be a little cooler for most of the week, with flurries, showers and clouds forecast for much of the week, and a low of -6 C on Tuesday. But Thursday will bring a high of 15 C.
Western Canada and the Prairies
Winnipeg will still feel like winter this week, with showers, flurries and snow forecast for much of the week. Highs are expected to reach 11 C next Saturday, with overnight lows of -10 C on Easter Sunday.
Regina will see similar conditions, with flurries, clouds and some snow forecast for much of the week, though there are a few days of sun expected as well. The high of the week will be 16 C on next Saturday, and the overnight low will be -10 C on Easter Sunday.
Edmonton will experience cooler weather, with flurries and light snow in the forecast, before the coming weekend brings warmer temperatures. Residents will see a high of 13 C next Saturday and an overnight low of -4 C on Easter Sunday.
Parts of B.C. will enjoy warm temperatures and sunshine this week. In Victoria, sunny conditions are expected for much of the week. Monday will see the highest temperature of the week at 20 C, while Tuesday will bring an overnight low of 2 C. Vancouver is set to experience similar warm temperatures and sun for much of the week, with highs of 17 C on Sunday and overnight lows of 3 C on Tuesday.
Quebec
In Quebec, a snowfall warning is in effect for eastern parts of the province, with 15 to 20 cm of snow expected for areas stretching from the Chutes-des-Passes–Pipmuacan Reservoir area to Natashquan. The Mont-Joli area is also expected to be hit with ice pellets and intermittent freezing rain.
However, Montreal will see a mixed bag over the week of sun, showers and even flurries. Residents will see a dip in temperatures, with the overnight low at -7 C on Tuesday, while Thursday will bring a high of 15 C.
New Brunswick
In New Brunswick, a weather alert is in effect on Easter Sunday for the northern part of the province.
The western half of Restigouche County to the Acadian Peninsula is expected to see a prolonged period of ice pellets, freezing rain, and an accumulation of 10 to 15 cm of snow.
Nova Scotia
A weather statement was issued for strong southeasterly winds in the northern tip of the province, along the western coast, in the Inverness County–Mabou and North region, with maximum gusts of up to 110 km/h.
P.E.I.
While wetter weather is expected for the start of the week, Charlottetown will see lots of sun this week, though conditions will remain chilly.
The overnight low of the week is predicted for Tuesday, with temperatures touching -6 C. Meanwhile, a high of 12 C is expected on Friday. The rest of the week will see temperatures remain below 10 C.
Newfoundland and Labrador
Various weather alerts are in place for Newfoundland and Labrador. An eastern swath of the province, in the region of Labrador City and Wabush, is forecast to see 15 to 20 cm of snow overnight Easter Sunday.
Meanwhile, very strong wind gusts are expected in Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity, with maximum gusts reaching 130 km/h.
The Territories
A weather alert for blizzard conditions is in effect for Gjoa Haven, Nunavut, on Easter Sunday, with conditions expected to improve overnight.
Yellowknife will see mostly sunny skies this week, with highs of -2 C on Tuesday and overnight lows of -21 C on Easter Sunday.
Whitehorse will see mostly sun during the week, with highs of 5 C across most days, and an overnight low of -8 C on Friday.
