Randy Jones of Manitoulin Island was in tears as he sat in the prisoners’ box as he pled guilty to charges related to a crash in downtown London which killed a retired school principal and badly injured her husband.
On Sept. 10, 2025, the court heard that despite being a suspended driver, the 44-year-old Jones was behind the wheel of a black Chevy Silverado with a group of his friends as passengers.
At the time, London police officers noticed the vehicle, followed it and gave chase after it drove through multiple red lights.
With speeds reaching close to 100 km/h, the pickup eventually crashed into a Volkswagen SUV at the intersection of William Street and Queens Avenue.
The collision claimed the life of 67-year-old Catherine Sallows and badly injured her 70-year-old husband Stephen.
In an agreed statement of facts the court was told, “The majority of the incident was captured on video. Police viewed the video and observed Mr. Jones flee the scene.”
Jones left the victims and his injured friends behind but was eventually arrested a week later in Thunder Bay.
Initially charged with 11 offences, Jones pled guilty to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody with a sentencing hearing scheduled for June 17.
