Two canopy bed models sold on Costco Wholesale’s website have been recalled in Canada after numerous reports of injuries in the U.S.
Costco posted an “important recall notice” on its webpage on Monday, saying that the manufacturer of the “Oaklynn Canopy” queen- and king-sized beds is recalling the products.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Samson International is conducting a voluntary recall of various canopy beds in cooperation with Health Canada and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,” the notice read.
“The canopy beams of the bed frames can collapse primarily when the bed is moved, posing impact and injury hazards to the consumer.”
The notice said that as of March 18, the company had not received any reports of injuries in connection with the beds in Canada, however, there had been five reports of the bed canopy collapsing in the U.S.
In those incidents, consumers said they were struck by the canopy beam, according to the notice, with four incidents “resulting in shoulder and head contusion injuries.”
Consumers who purchased one of the beds are advised to not move the frames and immediately contact Samson “for a free repair and installation of four metal brackets and mounting hardware.”
The impacted beds, which were sold on Costco.ca, are as follows:
- Oaklynn Canopy Bed, king-sized, item number 1812427, model number M24107240
- Oaklynn Canopy Bed, queen-sized, item number 181242, model number M24107230
“To identify your model number, please locate the name ‘Samson International’ and the model number printed on the manufacturing label located on the inside of the bed frame on the right hand-side when looking from the foot of the bed,” the notice read.
Consumers looking for more information are asked to contact the manufacturer directly.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask you to please pass this recall notice along to anyone to whom the Oaklynn Canopy Bed may have been given,” Samson said in the notice.
