Suspect allegedly shoved baby stroller during Vancouver robbery, police say

Published:

A man has been charged after a woman out for a morning walk with her child was allegedly robbed by a man with a knife.

A mother out with her toddler was allegedly threatened by a knife-wielding man during an alarming daylight robbery in Vancouver’s Point Grey neighbourhood this week.

Police said the victim was pushing her 17-month-old child in a baby stroller Tuesday morning when a stranger tried to grab her phone.

When she held onto the device, the man allegedly threatened her and “attempted to push the stroller over,” the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.

“The mother was able to stop the stroller from falling, but the suspect got away with her phone,” police said.

Witnesses provided a description of the man to police, who managed to locate and arrest a suspect “within minutes,” according to the department.

Charges of robbery and uttering threats have since been approved against 37-year-old Ibrahim Omar.

Authorities said the suspect remained in custody as of Wednesday morning pending a bail hearing.
