More than one million Bissell-brand steam cleaners are being recalled in both Canada and the United States after reports of burn injuries on both sides of the border.

“The attachments for the steam cleaners can unexpectedly detach from the steam cleaners and expel hot water or steam onto users during use, posing a burn hazard,” according to a consumer product recall notice published Thursday on Health Canada’s website.

Bissell, which the notice says is co-operating with Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), said that as of March 19, there has been one burn injury reported in Canada and 160 in the United States.

The company says more than 95,000 units were sold in Canada between October 2024 and March 2026, and another 1.2 million in the U.S.

The recalled models are the Steam Shot Omni (model number 4171B/C/D/J) and Steam Shot OmniReach (model number 4171H/X).

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Bissell to receive free new attachments,” the notice said.

Bissell has set up a website where customers can fill out a form and upload photos demonstrating proof of disposal of the recalled products.
