Driver facing new charge in death of Ottawa crossing guard

The 19-year-old man charged in the hit-and-run death of an Ottawa crossing guard is facing a new charge of dangerous operation causing death in connecting to the crash last month.

Xzander Wright was initially charged with failure to stop after an accident causing death following the crash in Barrhaven on March 23.

Wright remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 28. He is expected to enter a plea during the appearance.

On Wednesday, the Ottawa Police Service told CTV News Ottawa an additional charge of dangerous operating causing death has been laid against the driver involved in the crash.

Peter Clark, 55, was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Cedarview Road and Kennvale Drive on March 23. Clark died from his injuries in hospital.

CTV News Ottawa reported last month that Wright is also facing an impaired driving charge in connection with an incident last July in eastern Ontario

That matter is now scheduled to go to trial in a Brockville, Ont. court in December.
