Mélanie Payette, 48, was arrested on March 26 and is facing a charge of fraud exceeding $5,000.

The force adds that this is the second fraud case involving Payette, who was convicted in November 2025 for similar acts at a non-profit organization in the Joliette, Que., region.

“She may still be employed by community organizations,” police state.

Payette was released on conditions and is expected back in court on June 22.
