A vehicle allegedly going more than double the speed limit tried to dodge police by driving through a farm field.
South Simcoe police say at around 9 a.m. on Thursday, they noticed a vehicle going 144 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone on Line 5 between County Road 27 and Sideroad 5 in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
Police say when the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver kept going and ended up making their way onto a farm field.
The driver continued to operate the vehicle in an unsafe way to avoid police. Authorities say the driver was making dangerous manoeuvres like reversing the vehicle very fast through the field and crossing a ditch to get back onto the road.

Authorities say the vehicle eventually lost its exhaust system and at that point, the officer stopped the pursuit due to the risk to public safety.
The investigation is ongoing and police are looking for the public’s assistance in catching the driver.
The vehicle was last seen driving southbound on Sideroad 5, south of line 4 in Bradford.
It’s described as a light-coloured Ford Escape from roughly 2008 to 2012 with a missing exhaust. Police say the vehicle is very loud and easily noticeable.
