Additional charges have been laid against a Winnipeg man who is alleged to have threatened the prime minister, as well as Jewish and Muslim communities.
The investigation began at the start of the year when the RCMP Federal Policing National Security Enforcement Section learned of a suspect who was using social media to post threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney and incite hatred against Jewish and Muslim communities.
The suspect — a 55-year-old Winnipeg man — was arrested in February and charged with three counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
On Friday, police announced additional charges against Jason Paul Rindall, including advocating genocide, willful promotion of hatred and uttering a threat to cause death to the prime minister.
Rindall remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court on Friday.
The charges have not been proven in court.
