A B.C. dance instructor is facing sexual assault charges stemming from when he taught at a studio in White Rock more than a decade ago, according to authorities.
The White Rock RCMP says it received a report in 2021 of a “historical sexual assault” against a student at the studio, and as the investigation progressed, police identified more victims—all of whom were underage at the time of the alleged offences.
In February of this year, the B.C. Prosecution Service formally charged 45-year-old Nigel Brock Jellison—who goes by Brock Jellison—with five counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual exploitation.
Police say the charges stem from alleged offences involving four separate victims and they occurred between 2006 and 2011.
A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Jellison’s arrest and he was apprehended on April 15 in Magrath, Alta. He was released with conditions pending his next court appearance, which in scheduled for May 19 in Surrey Provincial Court.
“The alleged offences occurred while Jellison was teaching at a local dance studio in White Rock. Investigators are aware that he has also been associated with other dance studios. Due to the historical nature of the allegations, and to avoid any unintended impact on current studio operations, police will not be identifying the business,” Mounties wrote in a statement Tuesday. “Based on the investigation, it is believed that more recently Jellison was teaching in Alberta.”
Police are asking anyone who was taught by Jellison or attended the studio and has information to call the White Rock detachment at 778‑545‑4800.
