SkyTrain service restored after ‘track intrusion’ in downtown Vancouver

SkyTrain passengers disembark after a "track intrusion" suspended Expo Line service in downtown Vancouver on April 27, 2026.

There was a troubled morning commute for many SkyTrain passengers Tuesday after a “track intrusion” incident in downtown Vancouver.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police said officers were told a man entered the guideway at Waterfront Station shortly after 8 a.m. and began walking toward Burrard Station.

“The tracks were powered down and trains held while our officers entered the guideway to search for the individual,” an MVTP spokesperson told CTV News in an email.

Officers were unable to find the man, service was eventually restored after they “determined that the individual was no longer on the tracks,” the spokesperson said.

Police don’t know why the man entered the guideway.

The situation forced TransLink to suspend Expo Line service between Waterfront and Stadium-Chinatown stations for about 90 minutes.

During the suspension, SkyTrain cars bound for the downtown core were turned back at Stadium-Chinatown Station, but a bus bridge was set up to transport passengers to Granville, Burrard and Waterfront stations.

Service on the Millennium line and Canada Line was not affected, TransLink said.
