A 17-year-old male is facing animal cruelty charges after Winnipeg police allege he killed and injured multiple Canada geese in separate incidents.
Police say the killings took place on April 25 and involved the youth allegedly driving a vehicle and striking the geese.
Two of these incidents happened in parking lots on Henlow Bay minutes apart and involved sleeping geese being run over, police say. Two of the geese were killed, while one was injured.
Another incident happened at 10:17 p.m. in a Sterling Lyon Parkway parking lot. According to police, two geese were chased from their nest in the parking lot, then run over and killed.
The vehicle and the driver were identified, and the youth was arrested Monday afternoon without incident.
He is facing five charges of killing or injuring animals and was released with an appearance notice for a future court date.
The charges have not been tested in court.
Since Canada geese are a protected species, Manitoba Conservation has been informed, police said.
The investigation into the incidents continues.
