Sleeping child narrowly missed by gunshots in northeast Edmonton, police searching for shooter

Published:

A sleeping child was nearly hit by a bullet in a random shooting in Clareview last month, according to police.

Police want to identify someone they say fired gunshots in northeast Edmonton, one of which hit a home and narrowly missed a sleeping child.

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) responded to calls of gunshots near a schoolyard in the area of 133 Avenue and Clareview Road around 4 a.m. on April 5.

Investigators believe one person fired the gun after they met up with someone in an unknown vehicle.

One of the shots hit a nearby home and went into the bedroom of a young child, but EPS says the house was not targeted.

“A brazen shooting in a residential neighbourhood is concerning, in particular when a child was directly in harm’s way,” Acting Insp. Eric Stewart said in a news release.
