Consumer Protection B.C. has issued more than $11,000 in administrative penalties to 19 funeral directors and embalmers it says have not kept up to date with their required training.
The regulator announced the penalties Friday and published summaries of the contraventions on its website.
In B.C., funeral directors and embalmers are required to complete six hours of training in their licensed field every two years, according to CPBC.
The regulator says the 19 penalized individuals failed to complete their required training, and it has issued compliance orders requiring them to do so.
CPBC has also issued administrative penalties to each individual, ranging from $400 to $1,000 per person.
Several of the regulated professionals penalized were on their second or third contraventions of the training rule. They were:
- Patrick Gisle: $1,000 penalty for third contravention
- Joanne Gisle: $1,000 penalty for third contravention
- George McKenzie: $800 penalty for third contravention
- Ronald Larose: $800 penalty for second contravention
- Ric Hamre: $800 penalty for second contravention
- Alexander Grywacheski: $800 penalty for second contravention
The other people penalized were:
- Alexandra Doran: $500
- Sarah Smith: $500
- Gregory Wright: $400
- Larry Thompson: $400
- Mildred McKenzie: $400
- Todd Gallo: $500
- Christopher Fitzgerald: $400
- Bruce Dureau: $500
- Trevor Crean: $400
- Thomas Crean: $500
- William Clark: $400
- Natasha Schrader: $500
- Lara Kraubner: $500
More-detailed summaries of each individual case are available on the CPBC website and can be found by following the links above.
The administrative penalties imposed add up to a total of $1,100. Any amounts collected will go to the Consumer Advancement Fund, which CPBC uses to deliver consumer education in the province.
Each penalized individual has 30 days to request reconsideration of the regulator’s decision.
