The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced the seasonal Four Falls, N.B., port of entry along the Canada-United States border will be permanently closed.
The port of entry had been out of service since May 17, 2020, closing initially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is now shut down indefinitely.
“The decision to permanently close the port of entry was based on an analysis of operational pressures and services required in Atlantic Canada,” reads a news release from the CBSA.
Among these operational pressures, the CBSA cites low traffic volumes, estimating an average of 8,000 travellers per season.
The Four Falls port of entry also only opened from mid-April to mid-October, and the seasonal operating model was another factor that put it on the chopping block.
Two additional ports of entry are within 15 km of the now closed Four Falls.
The Andover port of entry is located at 6 Route 190, Carlingford, N.B., and is open all hours every day of the week.
The Gillespie Portage port of entry is at 600 Route 375, California Settlement, N.B., open every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
