At an emotional hearing at the Sudbury, Ont., courthouse Monday, a 32-year-old man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with a fatal stabbing in February 2024.
It happened on Cabot Street in Sudbury, in the Cambrian Heights area, where two men got into an argument over a minor issue that turned deadly.

Bradley Peltier, 32, had been charged with second-degree murder in the case. To begin the proceedings, the courtroom was smudged and there was a prayer song to bring peace, as the families of the people involved in the fatal stabbing know each other.
Peltier pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Eli Jackson.

The judge heard that Peltier and the victim had been drinking and there was a fight over dirty dishes in the kitchen.
Jackson was stabbed 11 times, while Peltier sustained injuries to his ear and face.
In an interview with police after the stabbing, Peltier told investigators the victim attacked him.
“It wasn’t my plan,” he told police.
“Nothing I can do to change what happened. I am sorry.”
The judge was told that the Crown and the defence are not in agreement about the penalty Peltier should face. A pre-sentence and Gladu report were ordered.
A date for sentencing will be set June 23.
