The Calgary Stampede has released its lineup of midway foods, an assortment of treats guaranteed to test the culinary courage of Stampede-goers this summer.

Officials say this year’s menu ranges from international delights to wild offerings, as well as some traditional takes on old favourites.

Some of the items include the Cookies n’ Cream Korean Dog, Coke Caesar and Cruncher Critter Corn in a Cup.

“Every year our exhibitors push the boundaries, spending months developing imaginative and unexpected dishes exclusive to the Midway,” said Ashley Warner, midway manager at the Calgary Stampede, in a news release.

“It’s about delivering outrageously bold, fun and irresistible creations that give guests new ways to experience the excitement, creativity and spirit of the Calgary Stampede.”

Some of the wild drinks being poured at the midway include the Brazilian Whipped Limeade and Big Buckin’ Lemonade, but sweet and salty lovers might also enjoy the Butter Drizzled Vanilla Soft Serve cone.

Traditional Stampede favourites are also coming back with new twists like Triple Chocolate Mini Donuts, Korean BBQ Poutine and the Meatball Sub Corndog.

Deep-fried… pizza?

For the past several years, the Calgary Stampede has been offering insiders a chance to come up with a name for one of the midway’s new creations.

This year’s winning name for a mouthwatering slice of cheese Pizza 73 pizza, dipped in corn dog batter dusted with Cheetos seasoning and then deep-fried, is the Cheesy Saddle Slice, a.k.a. the CS Slice.

“Pizza 73 has deep roots in Western Canada, and the Calgary Stampede is the perfect place for us to bring bold, craveable food to fans,” said Adam Williamson, marketing director for Pizza 73.

The Calgary Stampede runs from July 3 to 12.
