The Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) says a system outage that impacted primary inspection kiosks at some of the country’s busiest airports has been resolved, but warns short-term delays could persist as normal operations resume.

The agency said in a post on X Monday morning, that an outage was affecting both airport travellers and commercial shippers crossing Canadian borders. The commercial systems outage had not been resolved as of 2:30 p.m. EDT on Monday, according to the agency.

The airports that had been impacted were Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG), Winnipeg (YWG), Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Billy Bishop (YTZ), Ottawa (YOW), Montreal-Trudeau (YUL), Québec City (YQB), Halifax (YHZ), and Hamilton (YHM), according to a CBSA spokesperson.

“At approximately 1:30 a.m. EDT, the CBSA began experiencing a system outage affecting business and traveller systems including primary inspection kiosks at 11 Canadian international airports,” Luke Reimer wrote in an email to CTVNews.ca.

Prior to the kiosk outage being resolved, travellers had been re-directed to primary inspection lines for manual processing by CBSA officers, the agency said.

“We are still investigating the cause of the outage, however, there is no indication of a cyberattack,” wrote Reimer.

The CBSA said Monday afternoon that it is working to resolve the commercial systems outage as soon as possible.

“CBSA personnel have been working around the clock to restore system performance and resolve challenges, while also working directly with trade chain partners to move and release goods as quickly as possible to minimize disruptions,” Reimer said.

“The CBSA has been working with trade chain and government partners using alternative submission and release measures to ensure the continued flow of goods.”
