Woman charged with second-degree murder in Sault Ste. Marie

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is investigating a homicide at a multi-unit residential building in the 600 block of MacDonald Avenue on Saturday evening.

The police service said officers were dispatched to the scene around 11:30 p.m. on May 16 following a report of a stabbing.

“911 communicators received a report of a person having been stabbed inside a residence at a multi-unit residential building,” said police in a news release Monday.

The police service said the victim was transported to hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

The incident resulted in a significant police presence in the area on Sunday.

Arrest made

Officers arrested a 29-year-old woman at the scene and charged her with second-degree murder.

Police said the victim and the accused were known to one another.

Canvass underway

Detectives with Investigation Services, including members of the forensic identification unit, have been assigned and will be canvassing the area for information.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

“Further information may be released as it becomes available,” police said.
