An ambulance fell off a wharf in Annapolis Royal, N.S., on Monday afternoon.
Alex Cranton, first deputy chief with the Annapolis Royal Volunteer Fire Department, said they responded to the call at 181 St. George St., where they found an ambulance off the side of a wharf.
“We made contact with the two individuals in the ambulance, we assessed the situation, we stabilized the vehicle, we sent a ladder down to the seabed and a couple of firemen went down the ladder to support the ambulance personnel,” Cranton said.
“On their trip out of the ambulance, they climbed on to the ladder and then we brought them up safely.”

Kevin MacMullin with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 727 said two paramedics were in the ambulance and they were not injured.
“This carries a truly emotional strain on the paramedics that were involved,” MacMullin said. “It’s an accident, unfortunately, and it will be investigated fully.”

EHS confirmed the incident is under investigation.
Cranton said it was “kind of a shock” to see an ambulance off the side of the wharf.
“It’s never been something that we would’ve thought that would happen there,” Cranton said. “In all of my years here in Annapolis, I’ve never seen a vehicle go off the side of the wharf.
“It was a shock, and it was definitely a challenging experience.”
