A driver in Ottawa is facing traffic charges and likely a stern talking-to from mom after being stopped going nearly 70 km/h over the speed limit on Thursday.

Ottawa police say the driver was caught going 166 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 417 near March Road. The vehicle belongs to the driver’s mother, who was in the passenger seat when police pulled it over.

Mom’s car has now been impounded for 14 days. The person driving the car has also had their driver’s licence suspended for 30 days.

In addition to the automatic impound and licence suspension, a stunt driving charge can also carry a $2,000 fine, six demerit points and a one-year driving ban upon conviction.
