Halifax police search for missing newborn baby, 4 people in custody for questioning

Police in Halifax are urgently looking for a missing newborn baby.

Police said officers were notified Friday around 9:40 p.m. of a woman in hospital in life-threatening condition who appeared to have just given birth. According to police, the baby has not yet been located.

Police said four people are currently in custody undergoing questioning. No charges have been laid at this time.

On Saturday around 4:30 p.m., police said officers and Nova Scotia Ground Search and Rescue were in the area of 214 Willett Street conducting a search. They are asking the public to avoid the area to allow investigators to work.

Police forensics could be seen combing through several dumpsters outside the apartment complex Saturday evening.

According to Halifax Ground Search and Rescue, 55 people were assisting in the search. A canine unit from Colchester Ground Search and Rescue was also brought in to help.

Police are asking the public to search their own properties and report anything suspicious immediately.
