Toyota has announced a recall for nearly 17,000 vehicles in Canada due to a “safety risk” related to improper manufacturing.

A recall notice posted on Transport Canada, first on Wednesday and later updated Thursday said engines on certain vehicles may not have been manufactured properly, due to which metal debris could cause the crankshaft bearings to fail.

“This could also cause the engine to stall while driving,” the recall said, adding that “a sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.”

Vehicles affected by this recall include the following:

  • Lexus – Model: GX 550, manufactured in the year 2024
  • Lexus – Model: LX 600, manufactured in the years 2023 and 2024
  • Toyota Tundra models, manufactured in the years 2023 and 2024

The federal agency also noted that this recall replaced a previous recall for nearly 14,000 Toyota vehicles from last November.

The carmaker will notify owners of the affected vehicles by mail and the corrective actions for the recall are still under development, the agency said.
