Search for missing newborn baby continues Sunday, woman in critical condition

The search for a missing newborn baby continues Sunday in Halifax.

On Friday around 9:40 p.m., police said officers were notified of a woman in hospital in life-threatening condition who appeared to have just given birth. As of Sunday morning, police said the woman remains in critical condition in hospital.

Four people were in police custody Saturday undergoing questioning in regards to the missing baby. No charges have been laid at this time.

Both police and search and rescue crews have been combing the area surrounding 214 Willett Street in Halifax. Police forensics could be seen searching through dumpsters outside the apartment complex Saturday evening.

Dozens of people participated in Saturday’s search efforts, including a canine unit from Colchester Ground Search and Rescue.

Police have asked the public to avoid the area while they search. Officers are also asking people to search their own properties and report anything suspicious immediately.
