A mystery couple is giving away cash. The only catch? You must find the bag.
The husband and wife were inspired after spending some time in Quebec City and seeing cache videos on Facebook. They wanted to bring that same sense of adventure to the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The couple, who prefer to stay anonymous, did their first cash drop on New Year’s Day.
“It would make it very difficult to be able to do the drops and keep things fair with our faces in every video, and we want to keep everything fair for everybody and give everybody a shot to be able to get out, enjoy it and find the bank themselves,” said the husband.
The pair says they try to ensure the drop location is somewhere safe with accessible parking.
“We don’t want anybody, you know, going out, rushing around, getting hurt by trying to find one of our bags when we’re trying to show some joy around the community,” said the husband.
Drop 51 was live on Friday and was found in Lower Sackville’s Acadia Park by Rachel Alexander.
“We’ve tried basically the other couple times it was in Sackville, and there was one at Papermill Lake as well that my husband tried to find. So, this was very unexpected and a great surprise for sure. Threw the kids in the car and ran,” said Alexander.
While the pair has footed the bill for most of the drops, they have had some help from small business sponsors and friends.
“(The drops are) typically 25 to 30 bucks. My thing is putting in the old bills. Everybody really loves to see the old one- and two-dollar bills,” said the husband.
The couple says they’ve received many messages on social media telling them their drops have inspired people to get outside and enjoy parks and nature.
“For me, it brings such an adrenaline rush and so much joy to see the community come together. It’s like such a simple idea, but people love it and enjoy it. It’s the joy for me,” said the wife.
