Two women were reportedly surprised by an unusual encounter with wildlife in their Owen Sound residence this weekend.
According to police, officers were in the midst of responding to another call at an apartment complex in the city’s northwest area when they saw a deer wandering in the parking lot.
Police say the deer was reportedly startled by nearby activity and screams of residents, leading it to leap through the bedroom window of a ground floor unit that was occupied by two women, one of whom was sleeping.
Both occupants were evacuated and the responding officers opened the patio door to allow the deer to escape.
“After several attempts to guide the deer toward the opening, and some gentle encouragement, the animal leapt back through the same window, freeing itself,” stated Owen Sound police in a Sunday news release.
One of the residents reportedly sustained minor scrapes to her arm, while her bedroom sustained significant damage.
“The deer appeared uninjured – just a little embarrassed,” confirmed police.
Residents are reminded to remain calm and to keep a safe distance during encounters with wildlife on their properties.
