Hydro One confirmed to CTV News the outages were caused by severe winds Friday evening that brought down trees onto electrical equipment,

“Crews made significant progress (on Saturday) restoring power after high winds caused outages across central, eastern and northeast Ontario,” said Hydro One in a Saturday evening social media update. “While majority of customers have been restored, some in the hardest hit areas will be without power overnight.”

The utility provider reminds residents to report downed power lines and to avoid approaching them.

Generators should be used outside a household far away from windows or vents.
