Tornadoes overtook Manitoba Tuesday afternoon as there were reports of at least three touching down, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

ECCC confirmed the first tornado touchdown was around 3 p.m. about 10 kilometres southeast of Dauphin.

That was followed by a second just before 3:30 p.m. south of Carman.

The last incident was also south of Carman around 5:15 p.m.

ECCC had been issuing red tornado warnings for much of the afternoon Tuesday for areas of the Interlake and southern Manitoba as a storm system tracked east through the province.

Tornadoes weren’t the only severe weather Manitoba dealt with Tuesday, as ECCC said 6 centimetres of hail was reported west of Baldur and there have been other reports of heavy rain and hail in the southern parts of the province.

There is currently an orange severe thunderstorm watch that encompasses the southeastern portion of the province, including the city of Winnipeg.

“Thunderstorms are currently ongoing over southern Manitoba and will continue as the evening progresses. As these storms track east-northeast, they pose a risk for large hail (4 to 6 cm), strong gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and a tornado or two,” the watch reads.

People are being told to watch the conditions and go inside if any severe weather develops.
