A married couple has pleaded guilty to four offences after an investigation identified them as the suspects in a “province-wide crime spree” targeting jewelry stores in B.C., according to authorities.
The Vancouver Police Department’s Retail Crime Task Force launched an investigation into “a pattern of sophisticated distraction thefts targeting jewelry stores” in the city last year, a statement released Thursday said.
But the probe soon expanded to include similar reports in multiple jurisdictions.
“Investigators identified 12 related offences committed between August 2025 and February 2026. These incidents spanned communities from West Vancouver to Revelstoke, with an additional offence in Calgary,” the statement from police said. “A total of more than $90,000 in jewelry was taken.”
The couple, Adam and Maria Caldarar, was arrested in March in Chilliwack, the VPD said.
The pair remain in custody. Court records show guilty pleas to two counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of theft over $5,000 in relation to offences committed in Vancouver, North Vancouver and West Vancouver.
“The Vancouver Police Department extends its appreciation to the jewelry retail community and all partnering police agencies for their cooperation and support in bringing this province‑wide crime spree to an end,” Thursday’s statement said.
