One child dead, two youths hospitalized following ATV crash in Northwest Territories

BEHCHOKǪ̀ — A six-year-old in the Northwest Territories has died in an ATV crash that saw two other pre-teens hospitalized.

Mounties say it happened Saturday in the community of Behchokǫ̀.

They received the report around 9 p.m. and arrived to find the child had died.

An 11-year-old was treated and released from hospital while an eight-year-old was sent out of the territory for more treatment.

Police say the trio did not have helmets.

Under the law, all ATV drivers have to wear helmets and be at least 16 years old.

The investigation continues.
