Tornado warning issued for parts of Manitoba: ECCC

A tornado warning was issued for several municipalities in Manitoba on Tuesday, including the City of Winnipeg.

At 9:43, Environment Canada warned it was following a severe thunderstorm possibly producing a tornado. The Tornado was spotted in the area of the Northwestern Perimeter moving northeast at 30 km/h. Environment Canada warned West Winnipeg, Grosse Isle and Stony Mountain were in its path.

Meanwhile, warnings were issued for several other regions, including the RM of Brokenhead, the RM of Lac du Bonnet, the RM of Rockwood and Riding Mountain National Park

“Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado,” the warning reads. “Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.”

“This is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation,” ECCC said.

People are advised to take cover immediately in a basement, interior room or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches.

This comes as a large portion of Manitoba is under a tornado watch, as ECCC warns developing severe thunderstorms could cause violent weather through parts of the province.

This comes as a large portion of Manitoba is under a tornado watch, as ECCC warns developing severe thunderstorms could cause violent weather through parts of the province.

“A developing frontal system is forecast to move into southern Manitoba this afternoon, ushering in an unstable air mass ripe for the development of severe thunderstorms,” ECCC wrote in the warning.

Images sent to CTV News show grape- to golf ball-sized hail throughout the province and water washing over the roads.

Several thunderstorm watches and warnings were also issued for parts of Manitoba, with some still in effect.

The storm has knocked out power to many parts of the province. Manitoba Hydro said 13,250 customers are currently impacted.

“We appreciate your patience as we work to safely troubleshoot weather related issues including reports of tree damage and lines down,” Hydro said in a post on X Tuesday.
