A truck driver and company are facing a total of 17 charges after Ontario police say the commercial vehicle had been placed out of service for major safety defects and was found back on the road with the same problems.

According to the Caledon OPP Community Mobilization Unit, an officer stopped the transport truck on King Street Monday.

Police say the truck had been taken out of service by Ministry of Transportation safety inspectors last week after multiple alleged defects.

During a new inspection, officers say that none of the original defects had been repaired.

“Somehow, this operator received new plates and the vehicle had been certified to be back on the road,” the OPP said in a social media post.

Officers say the newly issued plates were seized and the truck and trailer were once again removed from service.

“Safety standards are not suggestions; they’re the law,” the OPP said, adding, “The good news, no new defects. The bad news, none of the original defects were fixed.”
