The company behind several popular video game franchises is closing its Winnipeg office.
Ubisoft confirmed Wednesday to CTV News it would be closing its Winnipeg office, impacting approximately 65 employees.
“Ubisoft is continuing to take targeted actions to reduce costs and focus resources on its strategic priorities as part of its efforts to strengthen the business over the long term,” spokesperson Caroline Stelmach said in an emailed statement.
The France-based video game company has published multiple popular video game franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance, Far Cry and the Tom Clancy series.
The Winnipeg studio opened in 2018.
In 2022, Ubisoft announced it would be investing $139 million into the Winnipeg studio by 2030, along with plans to triple its workforce.
The company currently has five studios remaining in Canada: Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Chicoutimi. A studio in Halifax closed in March.
