Two people are dead, and four are injured from a fire in a three-storey residential apartment building in Montreal’s Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough.
Police received a call around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning regarding a fire on 42nd Street near 24th Avenue.
The fire began on the second floor and spread to the third floor, Francis Fleury, spokesperson for the Montreal fire department, told CTV News. The building has eight apartment units.
He said approximately 70 firefighters were deployed to the scene.

The Canadian Red Cross told CTV News that they provided support to 16 individuals from eight households affected by the fire.
“This assistance included hotel accommodations, food, and clothing to help meet their immediate needs in the aftermath of the fire,” said Marietou Diallo, spokesperson for the Canadian Red Cross.
“We are also aware that several individuals are currently receiving care in hospital. We will continue to monitor their situation and remain ready to offer additional services upon their discharge, should they require further support.”
Of the four injured, two were transported to the hospital in critical condition. The other two were treated on site.
Urgences-santé spokesperson Benjamin Dansereau-Leclerc told CTV News the two individuals transported to the hospital with critical injuries — a female minor and a woman in her 30s — remain hospitalized.
According to Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture, an investigation with police is underway.
