A 28-year-old Mississauga man faces a drug trafficking charge after officers seized more than 33 grams of suspected fentanyl during an investigation stemming from a medical emergency at the North Bay courthouse.
The North Bay Police Service said the incident began at about 9:30 a.m. on June 1, when officers responded to a medical emergency at the courthouse.
The individual was transported to hospital, prompting a police investigation.
“During the course of the investigation, officers located suspected fentanyl in the individual’s possession and believe it was intended for the purpose of trafficking,” police said in a news release.
Officers said a subsequent search led to the seizure of controlled substances with an estimated street value of $9,900 – including the 33 grams of suspected fentanyl.
‘Every gram of fentanyl removed from circulation is a success’
Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Warner praised the work of officers involved in the case.

“Every gram of fentanyl removed from circulation is a success,” Warner said.
“This seizure highlights the important work our officers do to protect our community and hold those involved in drug trafficking accountable.”
The accused was charged with drug trafficking and failing to comply with a probation order.
Police said the accused remained in custody following the incident on June 1 and was formally notified of the charges on June 10.
The man subsequently appeared at a bail hearing the next day.
