A Barrie Police officer, who has been with the service since 2024, has been charged with assault following an internal investigation conducted earlier this month.

Police say the charges stem from a June 8 incident linked to a disturbance call. The incident was reported to the chief, who subsequently initiated a chief’s complaint.

As a result, the 38-year-old officer is facing charges of assault and assault causing bodily harm.

Police say the officer, who has 11 years of policing experience, has been reassigned to non-public-facing duties.

Barrie Police say they hold their members to high standards of professionalism, restraint and respect, and that allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated.

The matter is now before the courts. Police say no further details will be released.
