After 16 years together, Kevin Purcell and Angela Snyder didn’t need a grand gesture for their wedding — they needed the right moment, the right place and a tiki boat.
“We started taking the Halifax tiki boat every summer since the time it launched. So, when we decided to get married, it seemed like a natural choice for us, and it was so amazing to share it with our friends and family,” said Kevin.
Saturday’s ceremony marked more than a wedding for the couple, it was a homecoming.
Kevin and Angela made the move from Ontario to Purcells Cove, N.S., four years ago.
“It was something we never thought we would do and we took a leap. Purcells Cove is where my childhood home is, hence my last name. It is where my father grew up,” said Kevin.
“I love the ocean, so I was like, ‘Let’s go.’ And here we are,” said Angela.
“It brought us this wedding venue that we never would have known about had we not moved here.”
Despite the rainy weather, the couple headed out to exchange their vows on a custom-built tiki boat.
“It was forecasting a really bad day,” said Stephen Jeddry, owner of Tiki Tours Halifax.
“This is a very exciting time for all of us, and I can’t congratulate them enough and thank them enough for picking us for their special day.”
Kevin said he has one piece of advice for anyone still waiting for the perfect moment to propose.
“Don’t wait, because there is never a perfect time,” he said.
“If you are thinking about it, just do it.”
