An “unknown substance” was allegedly poured onto a statue of Terry Fox in the Canadian hero’s hometown, according to authorities.
Mounties received a report of the alleged mischief in Port Coquitlam Wednesday, but the incident is believed to have occurred between midnight on June 12 and 7 a.m. on June 13, the local detachment said in a statement.
“Terry Fox’s courage, determination, and selflessness have inspired generations of Canadians. As a Port Coquitlam resident, his legacy remains deeply connected to our community, and this statue stands as a tribute to his remarkable contributions,” Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Adriana O’Malley said in a statement.
“Terry is a national hero, and the damage caused to this statue is both upsetting and disrespectful.”
