Five Bengali nationals are facing charges after being caught trying to cross the border into Canada with hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of illegal cannabis and vape products.

During a border inspection on April 25, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers intercepted a vehicle entering through the Cornwall, Ont. port of entry.

According to the RCMP, a “significant quantity” of unstamped cannabis and vape products were found hidden inside the vehicle.

After an investigation, RCMP officers seized about 32.3 kilograms of unstamped cannabis with an estimated value $142,418.62 and 1,700 THC vape cartridges (1 gram each) worth approximately $34,000.

Officers also seized two packages of THC edibles weighing 1,100 mg total, $2,510 CAD in cash and seven cell phones.

Police say the five suspects are currently residing in the Toronto area and are in Canada on valid work permits. The suspects range in ages from 25- to 31-years-old.

Each of the suspects face charges for possession of unstamped cannabis and possession for the purposes of distribution. One faces an additional charge for failing to comply with a release order.

An investigation is ongoing.
