The body of a 78-year-old Ottawa man missing for more than three weeks has been found in the Gatineau River in western Quebec, according to police.

The MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police say William Lidington had been missing since June 2. Police said “extensive search efforts had been carried out” by the police service and its partners.

Police said at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a report of an unconscious person found in the Gatineau River in Cantley.

“The victim, a 78-year-old man from Ottawa, unfortunately died,” police said in a French media release.

Police say it was Lidington’s body that was recovered from the Gatineau River.

“No further information will be released regarding this case,” police said.

A police spokesperson told CTV News Ottawa the death is not considered suspicious.

Last Saturday, a body was found in the Ottawa River in the Masson-Angers sector of Gatineau.

Gatineau police continue to investigate.
