Police in western Quebec say a man is facing a $522 fine after calling emergency services claiming his partner was suicidal following a disagreement.

“A 36-year-old man learned the hard way that calling emergency services to take revenge on his partner can be costly,” the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais said on Facebook.

Police say the man contacted paramedic services in La Pêche on Tuesday, “stating that his partner was experiencing suicidal thoughts and had possibly consumed medication to end her life.”

“Police officers and paramedics attended the scene and quickly determined the situation as unfounded,” police said in a post on Facebook.

According to police, the man contacted paramedics after the couple “had a disagreement.”

The man, who lives in Ontario, was not home at the time. Police said he will receive a $522 ticket.
