‘Udderly slow’: Traffic jam after cow takeover on Hwy. 400

Published:

A cow was spotted by police and residents, running down Highway 400 in Innisfil on Thursday afternoon.

It’s not just cottagers slowing things down on the highways this Canada Day weekend.

A large black cow was spotted Thursday afternoon strolling along the shoulder of Highway 400, just north of the 6th Line.

Provincial police say traffic was “slow moo-ving” around 2:30 p.m. due to the four-legged jaywalker.

Witnesses tell CTV News drivers were seen trying to herd the cow into the back of a trailer along the shoulder of the highway.

It’s still unclear exactly where the cow came from. No injuries to drivers or the animal have been reported.

Police say the cow has since been wrangled off the highway, and South Simcoe Police are now responding as the animal heads toward the Innisfil area.

OPP say other nearby emergency services have also been advised.

CTV News has reached out to police for more information on the capture.
