Calgary police constable charged with on-duty assault

A Calgary police constable is facing assault charges after allegedly striking a person under arrest.

A Calgary police constable has been charged with assault after allegedly repeatedly striking an arrested individual.

According to the Calgary Police Service (CPS), the incident happened May 22, 2025.

“It is alleged that one member used excessive force following the arrest of an individual by striking them multiple times with a closed fist,” CPS said Thursday in a release.

The local force’s professional standards section investigated the incident and consulted with Crown prosecutors in Edmonton.

Imran Khan is charged with assault.

Khan is next scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 6.
