Don Matheson started buying lottery tickets last month.
He’s now $15 million richer.
“I didn’t realize it was $15 million until they told me,” he said after his June 5 win in Lacombe, Alta. “Everybody in the store was excited.
“I just thought, ‘Gee whiz, now I can really help some people.’”
Matheson is going to pay his family’s mortgage and support causes he cares about, like Pink Shirt Day, the reason he has pink facial hair.
“I was working at a school when I learned about Pink Shirt Day,” Matheson said. “I promised some kids I would do my part to help stamp out bullying, so this is my ‘pink shirt’ every day.
“I said I’d take it off when bullying stops. It definitely stands out and gets people talking.”
Matheson bought his winning ticket from Circle K at 101-5001 52 Ave.
