Four people were rescued and a search is ongoing for six others who are reported to have gone into the water off the Metro Vancouver coast.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, in a statement, said it was called in around 11:45 a.m. PT after receiving a report there were “several people in the water without personal flotation devices.”
The incident took place roughly 10 nautical miles southwest of Vancouver International Airport, the agency said.
By 1:15 p.m. PT, numerous air and watercraft had been deployed, and four people had been rescued and transferred into the care of paramedics.
“The search is currently ongoing,” the statement from the JRCC said.
A spokesperson said rescuers were still trying to locate six people as of 3:30 p.m. PT.
B.C. Ferries sent two vessels to assist with what it described as a “marine emergency,” causing some sailing delays on the Tsawwassen-Duke Point route.
