A young man who drove a car into B.C.’s Burrard Inlet in a livestreamed social media stunt two years ago has been charged in connection with another crash.
Court records show Jawad Mazen Fawwaz is facing one count of dangerous driving in a high-speed collision that took place at a New Westminster intersection on March 30.
At the time, the New Westminster Police Department said one of the two vehicles involved—a Mercedes Benz—was travelling so fast the collision flipped it into some nearby hedges, where it came to a rest upside-down.
“With the amount of damage these vehicles sustained, it’s a miracle no one was seriously hurt,” Sgt. Jacquelyn Mula said in a statement days after the crash.
Fawwaz previously made headlines after plunging a car into the ocean at the Rocky Point Boat Launch in Port Moody—an incident that was shared during a livestream by Adin Ross, an online personality with millions of followers.
The Port Moody Police Department alleged that Fawwaz, who was born in 2004, was paid to perform the stunt.
He was charged with mischief under $5,000 in that incident, and sentenced to one year of probation.
